Lunana, A Yak in the Classroom has won several awards at international film festivals and was nominated last year for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. This makes it the very first Oscar-nominated film from Bhutan.

For his last year of training, the young teacher Ugyen is sent to the extremely remote village of Lunana, which lies in the high mountain peaks of the Himalayas. Ugyen would like to become a musician and move to Australia, but contrary to his big dream he will have to spend six days walk to reach Lunana and start teaching there. The high altitude and lack of amenities of his new environment make him want to leave immediately upon arrival. But the warm welcome of the children makes him repent and will change his fate forever.
